Hempel Special Metals is an international owner-managed group of companies with many years of experience in the distribution and processing of high-performance metallic materials, especially semi-finished products in stainless steels, nickel alloys, and titanium.
We serve our customers at five locations from our own service centres.

History

1950

Founding of F.W. Hempel & Co. Erze + Metalle, Bremen; metal trading

1963

Second generation joins the company

1970

Diversification of the company into new business areas, production of antimony, lead, trading in semi-finished products, and much more

1977

Opening of the warehouse in Oberhausen and warehousing with processing (sawing, shearing) of nickel-based alloys and titanium

1978

Exclusive warehouse contract for nickel-based alloys with VDM for distribution in Germany

1987

Obtained re-stamping approval from TÜV and DASA certification

1988

Relocation of the headquarters of F.-W. Hempel & Co. from Bremen to Düsseldorf

1999

Generational (3rd) and management change; reorganisation of the group according to business areas and spin-off of the semi-finished product trade into a separate company

2000

Relocation of sales from Düsseldorf to Oberhausen

2001

Name change of the semi-finished products company to F.W. Hempel & Co. Gesellschaft für Spezial- und Rostfrei- Metalle mbH; new market presence and integration into the ‘Hempel Special Metals Group’

2002

Investment in plasma plant with 2 cutting systems

2007

Name change to Hempel Special Metals GmbH

2008

Integration of all HSM companies and Hempel Wire Ltd. into the newly founded Hempel Special Metals Holding GmbH, under the unified management of André Hempel

2010

Hall conversion/expansion; purchase of water jet cutting system in Oberhausen

2017

Spin-off of HDE from F.W.Hempel to form the independent Hempel Special Metals GmbH with main shareholder Hempel Special Metals AG Switzerland, later Hempel Holding AG. Acquisition of TK Fittings Ganderkesee; integration in Oberhausen and expansion with turning and milling machines

2025

Relocation of the warehouse to Mönchengladbach and expansion of the range of services to include water jet and laser cutting and bending
